I know that title sounds contradictory, but bear with me. Maybe you’re working a 9-5 desk job, forcing yourself out of bed every morning and dreaming of the day you’ll be excited to wake up for work. Maybe you’re drowning in debt and living on the tightest budget ever dreaming about the day you’ll actually have money to spend on yourself. Maybe you’ve been single for 4 years and you’re dreaming of the day you’ll have someone to come home to. Maybe you’ve just launched a business and you’re dreaming of the day when you can say, ‘I’ve made it.’

Wherever you find yourself. Your reality today, is better than your dreams tomorrow.

A couple of months ago I had a dream I was in a forest walking. There were trees everywhere, tall thin trees, as far as the eye could see and I was walking on this narrow path. I had to travel slowly because literally I was weaving in and out of trees. I got tired of walking to my destination and with every step was so afraid because I couldn’t see the end point. So I started to climb one of the trees to gain perspective. As I climbed and got closer to where I could see, I heard a voice from below gently beckon me to come down. ‘No, I have to see where I’m going.’ I replied. Again the voice said, ‘Monica, come down and follow me.’ Then suddenly I awoke, realizing this was more than just a dream.

Do you think if God allowed us to see where we were going that we would keep walking? Would you take that job if you knew that a year later you’d be crying every day on your way home, wondering why God led you there? Would you have gone to that school and gotten that degree if you knew you’d end up paying off debt for years to come? If you could see what marriage would be like 7 years from the day you said, I do, do you think you’d do it? Would you have taken the risk to launch your business if you knew it would actually be this hard?

God doesn’t waste a moment of our lives. I’ll say that again, God doesn’t waste a moment of our lives. Whatever reality you find yourself in today, it’s better than your dreams tomorrow. Why? Because whatever God is doing in and through you in this reality, will prepare you for the dreams He has for you tomorrow. His dreams involve greater things than you can fathom and your ability to recognize that now, changes things.

I challenge you, wherever you are, to stop trying to climb trees to see where you are going. Instead, fix your eyes on Jesus. Put one foot in front of the other, and trust that this Heavenly Father we serve, He sees your dreams, He has bigger ones for you. This path you’re on to get there is for a purpose. Be thankful for a God who keeps you where you are so that you’ll gain more of Him. After all, what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
